Notes from the
show:
"Temperatures have
been going up lately...and so has the size of the crowds
coming out to attend the Sonic Rush show! Arriving a
little late to setup, I was amazed at how difficult it was
to navigate through the maze of parked cars and the large
groups of people walking towards the event. The Sauk
County Fair boasts a wide variety of weekend entertainment.
There were truck and smoker tractor pulls going on just
behind the stage as we were preparing for sound check.
After sound check, we checked out some of the typical fair
attractions. Chris lost three dollars trying to shoot
out a paper star using a BB gun. Pete tried his luck
bouncing some wiffle balls off of some kind of Scooby Doo
trampoline into a pail. And Kyle tried to coax
everyone into taking a drop on the free fall ride for
a laugh. All of this brought back the memories of when
we used to attend the fairgrounds as kids.
The
Litscher Pavilion is a tricky place to mix because the roof
is just a sheet of tin...and the sound bounces off of it in
strange ways. For this reason, it took most of the
first set to dial everything in just right. Most
people hung towards the back of the beer garden because that
was the only place where you could find any real moving
airflow to keep cool. It was a blistering 90 degrees
for most of the day and the humidity kept things warm for
everyone going into the night. Thankfully, there was
plenty of beer going down which helped keep everyone
cool...and soon everyone seemed to be having a good time
despite the uncomfortable environment.
If the Sauk County
Fair is always this much fun, count us in for next year!"
